The World’s Leading Conservation Organization
As a company dedicated to social responsibility, Virginia Specialty Foods directs Popghum to actively seek partnerships with genuine, honest and powerful philanthropic organizations. In 2009, Popghum began working with World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, on a licensing deal that would make it the first organic food to bear the iconic panda logo. That deal was signed in 2010, creating a strong partnership that has become a cornerstone of Popghum’s social responsibility campaign.
WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. Popghum strongly supports their efforts to preserve the diversity and abundance of life on Earth and the health of ecological systems by:
- protecting natural areas and wild populations of plants and animals, including endangered species;
- promoting sustainable approaches to the use of renewable natural resources; and
- promoting more efficient use of resources and energy and the maximum reduction of pollution.
WWF works in part to reverse the degradation of our planet’s natural environment, and the organization recognizes the critical relevance of human consumption patterns to meeting this goal.
Popghum takes grain from the Earth to feed people. In turn, it gives back to the Earth by donating approximately 5% from the sale of every bag sold to WWF to help them support sustainability and their core mission.
Popghum’s packaging features the WWF logo, images of endangered species WWF works to protect, and a short narrative describing the plight of the animals.
